Privacy Policy — Journal & Notes
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Journal & Notes – Daily Notes is a journal and planner published by AAS Codeworks. The app works offline, with no accounts and no servers of ours. What you write stays on your phone, and in your own Google Drive if you turn on Drive backup, locked so that only you can open it.
1. The short version
- Everything you write, add, draw and keep count of is stored only on your phone.
- No ads, no analytics, no crash reporting, no AI, no accounts.
- Google Drive backup, if you turn it on, is encrypted on your phone with your backup password before it goes to your own Google Drive. Nobody else can open it: not Google, not us.
- Premium is bought through Google Play, which handles the payment.
- Your pages are left out of Android's cloud backup.
2. Stored on your phone
| Data | Purpose | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Pages and notes: words, headings, lists, moods, feelings, the numbers you keep, tags | Your journal | App-private storage, one file per page |
| Photos you add to a page | Shown on the page | A copy in app-private storage, redrawn without the location and camera details |
| Voice notes you record | Played back on the page | An audio file in app-private storage, beside the page |
| Stickers and drawings | Shown on the page | Inside the page's file |
| Earlier versions of a page (up to 30) and the trash (30 days) | So nothing is lost by mistake | App-private storage |
| Journals, folders, sticky notes, tasks, reminders and important dates | Your shelf and your planner | App-private storage |
| Settings, and the PIN, kept only as a salted hash | Your preferences and the lock | App-private storage |
Other apps can't read the app's private storage. Android's cloud backup is off for this app; a direct transfer to a new phone, by cable or local Wi-Fi, carries your pages across.
3. What leaves the app, when you do it
- Back up now saves the whole library as one .zip file where you choose. Auto backup writes it into a folder you choose, each day you use the app. The file isn't encrypted. Restore from a backup reads only the file you pick.
- Google Drive backup (Settings › Backup) sends the whole library to a hidden folder in your own Google Drive that only this app can see. It is encrypted on your phone (AES-256) before it leaves; the key opens only with your backup password or your recovery key, which never leave your phone. It runs once a day on Wi-Fi when you use the app, or when you tap Back up now, and keeps about a dozen copies from the last 30 days. Google asks you once to allow access to that folder; the app keeps no Google password. Your Drive is covered by Google's terms and privacy policy.
- Save as PDF and Share as text send a page or a journal to the place or app you pick.
- Send feedback opens your email app with a message to support@wriko.cloud started, with the app's version and your phone's make, model and Android version. You can change or delete them; nothing is sent until you press send. We use what you send only to answer you.
4. Premium and Google Play
Premium is a one-time purchase. The Play Store app on your phone handles the payment, and the app asks it whether your Google account has bought Premium. We see Google Play's sales reports, never your card details. Google Play also shows us install totals and, from phones set to share diagnostics with Google, crash reports.
5. Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) | Your reminders and, if you turn it on, the daily reminder to write. Asked for the first time you switch one on. |
| Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) | To set your reminders again after the phone restarts. |
| Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) | Only to record a voice note, when you tap Voice note. Asked for the first time you do. |
| Fingerprint (USE_BIOMETRIC) | Only with "Unlock with fingerprint" on: the phone's own fingerprint prompt at the lock. The phone checks the fingerprint; the app never sees it. |
| Google Play billing (BILLING) | To buy Premium through the Play Store app. |
| Internet (INTERNET) | Only for Google Drive backup, once you turn it on. |
| Network state (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) | So the daily Drive backup waits for Wi-Fi. |
| Hide overlays (HIDE_OVERLAY_WINDOWS) | While you type your PIN, other apps' windows drawn over this one are hidden. |
Photos come through Android's photo picker, which gives the app only the photos you pick. The app has no camera, location, contacts or storage permission.
6. Sharing
We don't sell or share your data.
7. Keeping and deleting
Your data stays on your phone until you delete it. A deleted page waits in the trash for 30 days, then goes for good with its earlier versions and photos. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes everything; backup files you saved stay where you put them, and Drive backups stay in your Drive until you delete them (Settings › Backup › Turn off Drive backup › Turn off and delete backups, or Google Drive's own settings). Step by step: Delete your data.
8. Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13. To remove it from a child's phone, see Delete your data.
9. Changes
We change the date at the top when this page changes.
